The following is an excerpt from one of the competitive programs that Music City Mystique (MCM) performs at the Winter Guard International World Championships each April. MCM is a 6-time World Championship winner…the highest number of titles of any WGI Percussion Ensemble. MCM is widely known to be the true innovator, always pushing the boundaries of the activity. The show follows the life of a Gladiator. Beginning enslaved in a Gladiator camps where they undergo strength and fight training, the opener concludes with the selection of the two Gladiators chosen to fight to the death in the “Main Event”. A solemn moment ensues as the two chosen Gladiators reflect on their impending fight where they know one or the other will die. The main event begins with full fanfare as the two combatants, dressed in full Gladiator garb, are introduced to the crowd. The Finale is a fast paced and brutal duel between the two combatants that culminates with Caesar himself asking the crowd if the loser shall live or die…..
